Oxford Cheetah Todd Wiltshire has completed one of the sport's most remarkable comebacks by being named in the Australian team that will contest this year's FIM ASL Freight Movements Speedway World Cup.

And fellow Cheetah, Czech Ales Dryml, will cap his country in the same competition.

Only the winners of the two qualifying groups will qualify directly to the final that will be held at Reading on Saturday July 22nd whilst the second and third placed countries in those groups will contest a 'race off' for the two remaining places in that final, again at Reading on Thursday 20th July.

Todd has been called up to the side that will ride for the "Land Down Under" in Event 1 of the competition in Rybnik, Poland on 16th July 2006 where they will face defending champions Poland, Team GB and Finland. He adds real strength to their line-up which includes World Champion-elect Jason Crump, Swindon's Leigh Adams, Peterborough's Ryan Sullivan and Coventry's Rory Schlein who makes his World Cup debut.

Teams for the meeting in Poland are:

GB: Lee Richardson, Simon Stead, Chris Harris, Scott Nicholls (capt), Mark Loram. Manager: Neil Middleditch.

FINLAND: Kauko Nieminen, Joonas Kylmakorpi, Kaj Laukkanen (capt), Juha Hautamaki, Tomi Reima. Manager: Yrjo Laukkanen.

POLAND: Piotr Protasiewicz, Sebastian Ulamek, Janusz Kolodziej, Jaroslaw Hampel, Tomasz Gollob (capt). Manager: Szczepan Bukowski.

AUSTRALIA: Ryan Sullivan, Rory Schlein, Leigh Adams (capt), Jason Crump, Todd Wiltshire. Manager: Craig Boyce.

Meanwhile Ales Dryml will lead the Czech Republic side, which also includes his younger brother Lukas, into battle in the second qualifying meeting that takes place at Malilla in SWEDEN on Tuesday July 18. The two Dryml brothers are joined by the evergreen former GP rider Bo Brhel along with Josef Franc and rising star Sam Simota.

Shock news is that hosts Sweden will be without former Cheetah and six-times World Champion Tony Rickardsson. Rickardsson is currently out of action on doctors' advice and manager Mats Olsson has not included him in the five-man team, with Andreas Jonsson taking over the captaincy.

Teams for the meeting in Sweden are:

USA: Greg Hancock (capt), Billy Janniro, Sam Ermolenko, Brent Werner, Billy Hamill. Manager: Bill Amick.

SWEDEN: Antonio Lindback, Fredrik Lindgren, Andreas Jonsson (capt), Mikael Max, Peter Karlsson. Manager: Mats Olsson.

CZECH REPUBLIC: Lukas Dryml, Bo Brhel, Ales Dryml (capt), Zdenek Simota, Josef Franc. Manager: Josef Lastovka.

DENMARK: Nicki Pedersen (capt), Charlie Gjedde, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen. Manager: Jan Staechmann.

Whers Holta for the Poles???

Sweden look weak now with Max in the team. GB looks good and the Aussys will be good.

I think the Czechs could cause a few shocks. If they can get in the Race Off, Simota could well be a trump card for them

Aussies look good damnit - surprised not to see Adam Shields in there though. He's been flying since he came back from injury.

Personally think we're heading straight for the run-off.

Assuming either Poland or Australia win the first one and Denmark win the second then Team GB will probably face Poland or Australia, Sweden and either USA or Czech in the race off. Can we finish in the top 2?

Holta hasn't ridden in either the Polish Golden Helmet or Polish National Championships this year, so they haven't bothered asking him to the SWC.

Don't think you'll hear many Polish fans complaining.

so why isnt Tomas Topinka in for czech rep? normally does well with bo brhel.

Last time I saw Topinka (at a CZ mtg) he was riding under a Slovakian licence.

Did he have a falling out with Dryml senior & the Czech speedway bosses, or am I thinking of someone else?

I am not happy over this team, expected to see Adam there!

And now he is injured again! :(

This was always gonna be a difficult choice with a lot of Aussie riders doing so well at the moment.

Obviously I am made up that Rory has the spot cause like Adam he has been riding out of his skin recently.

I am smiling huge smiles on the inside but as I feel sorry for those left out I have contained my excitement. :)

I heard on Planet Speedway an extremely arrogant interview by Lee Richardson when he stated that there no British riders that were suitable sustitutes for himself and Scotty should either of them be off form.

Lee could start by looking at the Speedway Stars fantasy league table where he will see that he dosen't even feature in the top six English elite league point scorers this season. As at 26th June they were

1 Scott Nicholls 251 points

2 Mark Loram 246

3 David Norris 214

4 Chris Louis 212

5 Simon Stead 205

6 Dean Barker 184

Neil Middleditch could lose us a semi-final place by overlooking Chris Louis, the current NO One in form English rider.

Neil Middleditch could lose us a semi-final place by overlooking Chris Louis, the current NO One in form English rider.

This was always going to be a difficult choice IMO. Harder than previous years where we've had injuries so veyr little pressure to succeed and other yeras where we've had the obvious 5. In the past people have still found fault with the fact Middlo has not used the youngsters and sued the Danes as an example (in the past they've left out a couple of older guys for young guns who have upped their game and are now automatic choices for them).

I thikn there were only 3 guarenteed places (what ever Lee Richardson says) and that was Scott Nicholls, Mark Loram and Simon Stead. After that we have Louis, Richardson, Harris and Norris. Norris probably losses out as he's not exaclty flying (althought you can never count him out) and he's not young so you don't have the "building for the future" arguement.

So it comes down to Richardson, Harris and Louis and TBH, I'd have Lee Richardson in my Team GB team every time, the guy has never ONCE let us down in a SWC. Everyon bangs on about Scotty being GB's number 1 and Loram being GB's number 1 but in the SWC GB's number 1 IS Lee Richardson.

Harris or Louis? Youtn or experience? Thats what this has come down to. Two completly different rider, old and young, racer and more of a thikner. Go with Louis and everyone says, "Why have 2 guys in their mid-30 and leave out the young kids, we'll never get anyhere with that attitude" where as have Harris and you get, "Why nt have the on form old gu who is scoring points for fun at the moment, it's no good givgin them experience for the future if you keep thorwing away todays points by leaving out the rider who can score points".

For Once, I'd absolutly hate to be Middlo, what ever he did was wrong and I can see it from both sides TBH Who would I have picked? I don't really know, I think I'd just give Louis the edge at Smallmead BUT I might put him in for Stead not Harris then!!!
