Guest
This is another message I have received in regard to the 'speedway reunion' at Wimbledon Stadium on Sunday, March 12, 2017: Message sent by DAVE BALDWIN: TWO AND FOUR WHEELS AT ONE WIMBLEDON MEETING!! - On Sunday 12th March, a very special event will take place, 'The Dons Den' and Wimbledon Speedway will be holding as part of the Spedeworth Stock Car race meeting that evening, a 'Farewell Reunion', with more details to follow, the up to date news about the event is on 'The Dons Den' FB page. I have also been approached and given permission to produce some event merchandise for the speedway so im thinking of exclusive posters, mugs, stickers, fridge magnets etc, so its going to be another emotional night at Wimbledon in March (TBC) Edited January 28, 2017 by Guest

Ray Stadia
Hi Gustix. So, what will this be? Will it be a parade on the stock car track? How are they planning to incorporate the bikes and riders in the farewell meeting? Obviously there will not be a speedway track for the boys to ride on. Guest
Hi Gustix. So, what will this be? Will it be a parade on the stock car track? How are they planning to incorporate the bikes and riders in the farewell meeting? Obviously there will not be a speedway track for the boys to ride on. The person organising the speedway aspect of this meeting is their former Conference League rider Jon Stevens. As you rightly say there will be no on-track speedway as the event is part-and-parcel of a stock car race meeting. Jon will be releasing further details of how the speedway presentation will be organised, but former riders and bikes will be there. More details should be available towards the end of this week. Guest
I have just received my copy of 'Classic Speedway.' To my surprise there is an article in it detailing all the planned happenings for Sunday, March 12 - answers to most of the questions that people have been asking for weeks on here and other groups! Guest
My criticism is not directed at 'Classic Speedway' for publishing their update for March 12. I am annoyed to think that I have been dealing with the organiser of the event for some weeks on here and elsewhere in answer to requests from Dons' fans for an update on what is scheduled and have been ignored. This when, in point of fact, from what I now read, the organisation for the March 12 Wimbledon Reunion is in an advanced stage.
Guest
Any chance you can paraphrase the key points from the update in Classic Speedway? Thanks

SteveLyric2
Wimbledon Stadium, March 12, 2016. So is this next month or was it last year?
Sotonian
Next month. Don't get too excited though - it's only a parade, no racing.
iris123
Next month. Don't get too excited though - it's only a parade, no racing. Yes,but Buzz Burrows on parade is enough to get excited about in itself
Guest
Wimbledon Stadium, March 12, 2017. So is this next month or was it last year? I have corrected the year to 2017 IN THE ORIGINAL POST. If you had bothered to go back to a few previous Posts you would have seen that the event is forthcoming and is 2017. Guest
Yes,but Buzz Burrows on parade is enough to get excited about in itself During its seasons of activity, Wimbledon had many spectacular riders in its teams. Mark 'Buzz' arrows in the Conference League period was certainly one of them. Here's another from times long-since-gone by. Early 1930s Wimbledon rider 'Cyclone' Billy Lamont - regarded by many old-time speedway enthusiasts as one of speedway's most spectacular riders. Mimmo
Although having moved to Norfolk at the tail end of 1986, I supported the 'Dons' from 1958 until 1986, and only missed meetings due to the annual family holiday. Once moved, I linked up with King's Lynn, but still made regular visits back to Plough Lane, filming meetings for MBI Video. To this day, I still miss everything about Wimbledon Speedway, and as most of us older supporters say, the sport isn't as good as it used to be. The likes of Ronnie Moore, Barry Briggs, Peter Moore, Ron How, Roger Johns, Tommy Jansson, Edward Jancarz etc., had an aura about them that the modern day rider lacks. In those days, it was quite easy to become friendly with the riders, as they had time in their lives to devote to you, and it fills me with pride to know that I became good friends with the late Ron How, a friendship that remained even after his move to Oxford. Unfortunately due to family health issues, I'm unable to make that one last journey to Plough Lane on the 12th March, but my thoughts will be with everyone that is either there, or used to be there. Enjoy and savour the experience.
